Podtrac Issues Weekly Podcast Data, Top New Podcasts

Podtrac reports that for the week of November 2-8, 2020 downloads were up 1% over the previous week and up 45% over the corresponding period last year for Podtrac measured shows. The News category showed the highest week-over-week download growth at 13%, while the History category showed the weakest growth week-over-week at -13%. Download growth for the 52-week period from November 4, 2019 to November 8, 2020 was up 45% across all Podtrac measured podcasts and week-over-week download growth for the week of November 2-8 rose 1%.

For Podtrac measured podcasts published for the first time between December 1, 2019 and September 30, 2020, True Crime was the most popular genre with 12 of the Top 25 shows including 7 of the Top 10. The second most popular category, Society & Culture, contributes 5 of the top 25, while News contributes 2 and Business, Fiction, Sports, Technology, TV & Film and Comedy contribute one each. Wondery and iHeartRadio contributed the most Top 25 new shows with 9 and 8 respectively, capitalizing on the True Crime trend with 5 True Crime shows each.
