RADIO ONLINE | Monday, January 11, 2021 |
The U.S. Federal Register has published the official notification from the Federal Communications Commission's notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) adopted on November 20, 2020, and released on December 1, 2020. The NPRM seeks input regarding changes that could allow FM broadcasters to use these booster stations to air geo-targeted content, such as news, weather and advertisements, independent of the signals of its primary station for a limited period of time during the broadcast hour.
Comments may be filed on or before February 10, 2021 and reply comments may be filed on or before March 12.
"We are pleased to enter the next crucial step towards bringing geo-targeting technology for radio to the broadcast industry and the listening public, as well as doing our part to level the hyperlocal playing field among the consumer media choices," said Robert Udowitz, a spokesperson for GeoBroadcast Solutions. "We look forward to working closely with broadcasters, trade groups and interested parties, and the FCC."
