Edison Finds Comedy is Top Podcast Genre in the U.S.

Edison Research announces the Top Podcast Genres in the U.S. for the first quarter of 2022, and comedy takes the top spot as the genre consumed by most weekly podcast listeners. The list ranks the most popular podcast genres based on audience size from Edison Podcast Metrics. Nineteen genres are identified as having at least one percent reach among those in the U.S. age 18+.

The Top 19 Genres for Q1 2022:

"As advertisers increasingly seek to target podcast listeners, it becomes more important to understand the appeal of various genres in the space," said Edison Research SVP Melissa Kiesche.

Podcasts are classified according to the self-identified genre submitted by the podcast to Apple Podcast API.
