Integr8 Research President Matt Bailey published a new blog about the current state of contemporary music and why he believes a change is on the horizon. According to Bailey, the slump seen in today's music is not at all surprising, and is the result of three generational factors.
One, Millennials are too old, while Gen Z is too young, to influence new music trends. Two, teenagers enjoying older music is not abnormal. With unprecedented access to the full history of recorded audio, we should expect a level of teens embracing songs decades older than they are. Three, new music's most vocal critics aren't in the demo.
Bailey expands on all three factors and offers tips on how to program contemporary radio stations until the new music cycle rebounds.
The blog is now available on the Integr8 Research website and here.
