Triton Digital has released its 2024 U.S. Podcast Report, revealing significant insights into the podcast landscape in the U.S. The report highlights a 23% growth in monthly podcast listeners over the past three years, with nearly 10% growth in the last year alone. By 2024, 44% of the U.S. population engaged with podcasts monthly, a statistic that underscores the medium's increasing prevalence.

Key findings from the report include:

  • YouTube has emerged as the leading platform for podcast consumption, capturing 33% of the audience in 2024.

  • Popular genres were dominated by News, True Crime, and Comedy, with respective listener demographics showing a skew towards specific genders.

  • The top podcast networks were led by the iHeart Audience Network, followed by SiriusXM Podcast Network and NPR.

  • NPR News Now remained the most consistently popular podcast, with notable episodes from Crime Junkie and a series on JonBenet Ramsey capturing significant downloads.

The report, drawing from multiple data sources including Triton's IAB Tech Lab certified metrics and a comprehensive survey of 12,000 U.S. podcast listeners, suggests a maturing market with diverse listener demographics.

Daryl Battaglia, SVP of Measurement Products & Strategy at Triton Digital, emphasized the broadening appeal of podcasts and their potential for deeper listener engagement and advertising opportunities.
