Salt Air Broadcasting has reached an agreement to acquire the radio stations and digital operations of CCB Media (Cape Cod Broadcasting Media), a deal that will expand Salt Air's Cape Cod portfolio to four FM stations and one AM station.
The transaction is expected to close with a broadcast transition on November 30, pending FCC approval. Salt Air Broadcasting will maintain its corporate headquarters in Brewster, MA.
Under the agreement, Salt Air will acquire WQRC-FM (99.9), WKPE-FM (103.9) and WOCN-FM (104.7). The stations will join its existing WGTX signals at 106.5 and 102.3, along with 1240 AM, described as the first licensed radio station on Cape Cod. The company also plans to launch a Classical HD channel operating under a nonprofit model.
"We still strongly believe in the power of local radio, particularly here on Cape Cod where a dedicated, year-round population relies on local stations every day," said Salt Air owner and CEO Gary Hanna. "Our focus is entirely on serving this community -- bringing back local voices, supporting local non-profits, and delivering exceptional programming."
Salt Air said it will retain CCB Media's existing sales and back-office staff while adding sales personnel. The company also plans to continue established community initiatives, including the stations' annual November food drives.
The acquisition includes CapeCod.com and CCB's digital operations. Salt Air plans to expand the website's coverage of local news, dining, events and tourism.
Salt Air's local leadership team includes Hanna, a Brewster resident, along with Jon Krongard of Brewster, Simon Bexon of Falmouth and Jerry McKenna of Provincetown.
"After forty-eight years working with our talented people who had passion and commitment serving Cape Cod, it was important for us to sell to a local owner who shares our deep-rooted commitment to local radio, community involvement, and serving local programming to our listeners," said CCB Media owner Greg Bone.
