RADIO ONLINE | Wednesday, April 1, 2020 |
Former Eagles played William "Tra" Thomas is out at Sports WPEN-FM (97.5 The Fanatic)/Philadelphia reports Inquirer.com. The former offensive lineman, who has co-hosted the station's morning show with Marc Farzetta since October 2018, said he has been laid off as the coronavirus pandemic.
"Welp guys it's been real," Thomas wrote on Twitter. "I'll see you guys on the other SIDE, SIDe, SIde, side."
Thomas was the 11th overall pick in the NFL draft from Florida State University and spent eleven years with the Philadelphia Eagles. After retiring from the league, he remained connected to football as a sports broadcaster, Eagles assistant line coach and technique coach. Before joining WPEN in July, 2018, Thomas held similar duties at WIP (SportsRadio 94.1) as a fill-in host.
Beasley Media Group - which owns The Fanatic and six other stations in Philadelphia - eliminated a whopping 67 positions across the country Tuesday and temporarily furloughed 18 full-time employees, according to a company spokesperson. Last week, it announced companywide pay cuts and hourly reductions for some employees, which will continue through the end of June.
