In a response to its own staff and listeners, Minnesota Public Radio 89.3 The Current has fired Eric Malmberg just one day after the resignation of an MPR reporter who investigated sexual-harassment allegations against the on-air personality. A statement from MPR President Duchesne Drew reads: "Eric Malmberg will no longer be a DJ on The Current. Our hosts have to be able to attract an audience that wants to listen to them and trusts them and over the last 36 hours those conditions have changed for Malmberg."
The Star Tribune reports that reporter Marianne Combs triggered the controversy Monday, saying she had resigned because of MPR's decision to hold off on a story alleging sexual misconduct by an unnamed Current DJ. Malmberg joined the Current airwaves in June 2018 working random weekend and fill-in shifts at the indie-alternative station.
