Veteran San Antonio air personality Tony Cortez is set to return to the airwaves as the morning host on KONO 101.1 starting December 30. This new role follows his previous post at Cox Media Group crosstown KSMG (Hits 105.3), from which he was laid off in November. Cortez's appointment to KONO comes after a station reshuffle triggered by midday host Steve Casanova's retirement.
Cortez's radio career in San Antonio spans several stations. Before his stint at Hits 105.3, where he advanced from evening to morning slots, he held positions at KXXM (Mix 96.1) and KXTN-AM, among others. He notably spent seven years at KTFM (Energy 94.1) serving as Assistant Program Director and afternoon host.
KONO celebrated Cortez's return on social media, stating, "Please welcome San Antonio favorite Tony Cortez to the KO-NO Airwaves." He replaces Tony Christopher, who is stepping in for the retiring Casanova.
Reflecting on Cortez's return, Casanova remarked, "Tony Cortez is a consummate radio personality. I can't wait to hear him blast off next Monday."
