Longtime Tallahassee radio personality Joe Bullard has unexpectedly parted ways with WHBX-FM (96.1 Jamz), reports WCTV-TV, ending a remarkable run that spanned nearly 30 years on the Cumulus Urban AC outlet. Bullard's final day on the air was June 17, according to a statement from his family. There was no retirement announcement, farewell broadcast, or prior notice.
"While his departure was unplanned on his part and ultimately bittersweet for us all, we as a family have enough faith to know that God makes absolutely no mistakes, even in this," the Bullard family said. "Joe will now have unlimited time to do what matters most to him, and that is to spend more time with his family and true friends."
Cumulus Media, which owns WHBX, confirmed Bullard is no longer employed with the company but declined further comment.
Bullard had been a cornerstone of 96.1 Jamz since 1997, initially gaining attention with his show Joe's Jukebox. In addition to hosting the midday shift, he served as the station's Program Director during his tenure.
An alumnus of Florida A&M University, Bullard has also held the title of "Voice of the Marching 100" since 1975-a role he continues to embrace as he marks 50 years announcing for the famed FAMU marching band.
In 2023, Bullard was inducted into the Black Radio Hall of Fame, cementing his legacy as one of the most influential voices in Southern radio.
