Longtime community journalist and former Boston Globe reporter Caroline Louise Cole has joined 97.9 WHAV as a staff reporter, bringing decades of experience and deep regional ties to Greater Haverhill's only public radio station. Cole is best known for her 16-year tenure with the Boston Globe's Northwest Weekly edition, where she earned a reputation for telling the stories of people and events that shape the fabric of local communities.

Before her work with the Globe, Cole co-founded the North Andover Citizen, a weekly newspaper that reached 80% of households in its namesake town.

"Caroline's track record as a storyteller and her commitment to community journalism make her a perfect fit for WHAV's mission to provide trusted local news," said WHAV officials.

In addition to her journalism credentials, Cole has served in a variety of community roles, including as volunteer coordinator and media liaison for the Massachusetts Senior Medicare Patrol program at Elder Services of the Merrimack Valley (now AgeSpan). She currently holds leadership positions with several civic organizations: president of the League of Women Voters of Andover-North Andover, board member of Family Services of the Merrimack Valley, and president of the Connecticut College Class of 1974.

A Haverhill resident, Cole enjoys spending time with her two children -- Rosie of Sandown, New Hampshire, and Sam of Brooklyn, New York -- and her grandchildren, Noah and Olivia.

WHAV, whose historic call letters date back to 1947, is operated by Public Media of New England. The station broadcasts from its original downtown studio and Silver Hill transmitter site, providing round-the-clock local news and community programming over the air at 97.9 FM, online at WHAV.net, via smart devices, and in its weekday Wavelengths eNewspaper.
