After nearly 20 years on the air at WTOP Washington, morning news anchor Michelle Basch will exit the all-News outlet at the end of the year. Basch joined WTOP in 2006 after seven years at WMAL in Washington, following an earlier stint at 790 KABC in Los Angeles. Since 2023, she has co-anchored mornings with John Aaron, taking over the shift after Bruce Alan and Joan Jones departed. Before that, she anchored evenings alongside Dimitri Sotis.
WTOP Director of News and Programming Julia Ziegler confirmed the move in a memo to staff, sharing that Basch is relocating full-time to Pennsylvania. "Michelle's passion for news, commitment to excellence and drive to 'first get it right, then get it first' will be greatly missed in this newsroom," Ziegler wrote.
During her tenure, Basch earned both regional and national Edward R. Murrow Awards, among other honors. She will continue reporting for WTOP in a transitional role before her full relocation with her husband to Pennsylvania.
