Report: Sean Compton to Oversee WGN-AM/Chicago as EVP

Sean Compton

Following the closing of the $6.4 billion acquisition of Tribune Media by Nexstar Media Group, Sean Compton is elevated to Executive Vice President overseeing News/Talk WGN-AM (720) in Chicago, reports Chicago media columnist Robert Feder. The move marks a return to radio for Compton, who previously served as Tribune's President/Programming beginning in 2010. Before that, he was the company's Senior VP/Programming and Entertainment beginning in 2008, overseeing programming decisions for WGN-AM.

Prior to joining Tribune, Compton spent 10 years at Clear Channel (now iHeartMedia) and six years at Jacor Communications.

Feder wrote "it's now up to Compton to restore the underperforming WGN Radio - the only radio property in Nexstar's portfolio." Nexstar is headquartered in Dallas, but Compton will continue to be based in Chicago.
