XWPRS-AM The Mighty 1090 Coming Back to San Diego

Just one year ago, XEPRS-AM The Mighty 1090 was the highest rated sports station in San Diego. Then the station fell on financial hard times and was ultimately taken off the air. But now Bill Hagan, owner of an Arizona advertising agency, has obtained the broadcasting rights and has plans to relaunch the station as "The Mightier 1090," hopefully as early as this summer. Hagan told The San Diego Tribune, "This summer, if not sooner, is the target date for the launch. We have to a ton of work to do. We just wanted to announce that it is coming back."

Hagen also noted that Scott Kaplan, a former 1090 talk-show host, will be part of the station's afternoon lineup but that he has no other broadcasters under contract. However, it will no longer be an exclusive sports station. Hagen explained, "There will be sports there - but it's not going to be just 24/7 talking about sports. Absolutely, it will be about lifestyle."

The station will target listeners throughout Southern California, not just San Diego, Hagen said. Because of the 50,000-watt signal, 1090 broadcasts can be heard clearly as far north as Santa Barbara.
