WHO-AM (Newsradio 1040)/Des Moines host Van Harden is retiring after 50 years on the job. Tuesday, the longtime radio veteran and Iowa Broadcasting Hall-of-Famer announced on his morning show, "Van Harden In The Morning," that he'll be retiring from his 50-year Iowa radio career on January 8, 2021. He joined the station in 1971.
"Today, I'm announcing my upcoming retirement on January 8, 2021," Harden announced Tuesday morning. "I didn't give them a two weeks' notice, I gave them a one-year notice."
After 50 years, Harden said that he feels now is the time to retire. He also thanked those he had worked with over the years, especially former co-host Bonnie Lucas, who retired in March after working with Harden for 25 years. Lucas joined Harden in the early 1990s following Connie Murad's exit from the "Van and Connie" show.
