Sarah Glover Named MPR News Managing Editor

MPR News welcomes Sarah Glover as the newsroom's managing editor, beginning today. Glover was previously with NBC Owned Television Stations, where she served as manager of social media strategy and brings 23 years of experience in local journalism, including more than a decade at the Philadelphia Inquirer and the Philadelphia Daily News as a staff photographer. While at the Daily News, she led the video team on the Pulitzer Prize-winning "Tainted Justice" series.

Glover has served two terms as president of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ), which she led from 2015 to 2019. Hers was the first two-term presidency in NABJ's history, and during her tenure, she created the NABJ Black Male Media Project, which examines the portrayal of Black men in the media. She also played a crucial role in the Associated Press Stylebook's move to capitalize the "B" in Black to describe people and communities.

"I grew up in a household where public media was ever present and it influenced the person I am today," said Glover. "I'm fortunate that I can help shape the news products that will speak to the next generation of MPR listeners and digital audiences. I look forward to working with MPR's talented journalists to build bridges and cover the state of Minnesota with authenticity and zeal."

As managing editor, Glover will lead a team of more than 40 reporters, photojournalists and editors and will be responsible for editorial decisions and planning across MPR News platforms. Glover will also collaborate closely with MPR News' program director Stephanie Curtis, who leads more than 30 newsroom staff members as hosts, newscasters, meteorologists, and producers. As a leader of Minnesota's only statewide public media network, Glover will work alongside both Curtis and MPR president Duchesne Drew to champion the development of both a vision and strategy to best serve and cover the state's diverse communities.

"As communities across America strive for equity, so does the news industry," said Glover. "My goal is to build upon the diversity work at MPR and develop an anti-racist and inclusive newsroom that's a model for the nation. Storytelling is truth-telling, and the role of journalism is vital."

"Sarah is an incredibly accomplished journalist and, as an advocate for meaningful change in the media industry, she brings a strong leadership and strategic skillset," said Drew. "We're extremely fortunate to welcome her level of talent to our newsroom. Thorough and inclusive journalism is necessary, especially in a divisive time like the one our state faces now. Sarah will take our newsroom to the next level in serving all of Minnesota's communities."

Glover is a graduate of Syracuse University, where she earned a dual degree in Photojournalism from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications and African American Studies from the College of Arts and Sciences. She holds a Master's in Communication Studies from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania and is currently pursuing a Master of Business Administration at Temple University Fox School of Business. Glover is a 2021 Nieman Visiting Fellow at Harvard University.
