Bongino Returns to the Air, Starts Fund for Cumulus Employees
RADIO ONLINE | Thursday, November 4, 2021 |
Conservative talker Dan Bongino's stance against Cumulus took an interesting turn yesterday. After affiliates were told Bongino would be off the air again this week, he showed up Wednesday with a live show saying he was starting a fund to help Cumulus employees who were fired for not getting vaccinated per a company-wide mandate.
During the show's first hour Bongino lamented, "I'm going to create a fund for these Cumulus employees who were let go in a pathetic and disturbing fashion. I'm going to highlight their stories and I'm going to put $250,000 of my own money in that fund. That'll be the start. We'll take care of as many Cumulus employees as we can."
Bongino told listeners that he's still negotiating and "Hopefully I'll have an announcement about what Westwood and Cumulus is doing." At some point in the day Bongino also hosted what he called an "emergency press conference" on Facebook which appeared to be live streamed. During the conference he accused "a bunch of conservative radio hosts" of leaking to the media that he had lost their support on his stand against a vaccine mandate. He did not specify by name anyone in particular.
Bongino has been open about his own lymphoma diagnosis and the fact that he has been vaccinated. He also said that there was a provision for him to cancel his contract with Cumulus if he so desired.
