Audacy Flips ALT 92.3/New York to All News WINS-FM

Audacy flips Alternative WNYL-FM (ALT 92.3)/New York to a simulcast of all-News WINS-AM (1010) as WINS-FM. The station, that once housed Howard Stern as WXRK, shifted from Classic Rock to Alternative in January, 1996 launching the "K-Rock" brand in July, 1985. The then CBS Radio outlet then changed in January, 2006 to Talk as "92.3 Free FM" after Stern's exit to SiriusXM. It later returned to "K-Rock" until March, 2009 and flipped to CHR as "92.3 Now" and later "92.3 AMP Radio." Follwing its acquisition by Audacy, the station became "ALT 92.3" in November, 2017.

The format switch also coincides with a long-planned newsroom merger between WINS-AM (1010) and WCBS-AM (880). Both stations will retain their separate identities, but that the merger removes the redundancy of coverage and frees reporters up at each station to cover different stories.
