Following the sale of Audacy's Country WLFP (94.1 The Wolf)/Memphis to Educational Media Foundation last week, the company said in staff memo that the station's Country format would move to longtime to co-owned 300kw Hot AC WMC-FM (FM 100)/Memphis. WMC's current format will then "sunset." The move will take place about 90 days from the filing on April 7.
In a staff memo, Audacy Memphis SVP/Market Manager Dan Barron wrote, "Well, ladies and gentleman, we're not getting out of the Country radio business. In fact, we are doubling down. WLFP, Wolf 94.1 will move up the radio dial to 99.7 and become Wolf 99.7."
He added, "Unfortunately, with this move, we will be sunsetting WMC-FM 100 to make room for Wolf 99.7. While this is a very tough decision, going forward we are in the best position to serve our listeners and advertisers with the operation of three dominant, distinct brands: #1 AC (WRVR), #1 Sports (WMFS) and #1 Country (WLFP)."
The current WLFP lineup will remain in place, while Erin Austin from the FM100 morning show will fill its vacant midday slot. She joined the cluster in April, 2021 after working for co-owned Country KILT (100.3 The Bull)/Houston for a whopping 12 years.
