Veteran Radio Programmer Jody Denberg to Retire

For much of the 1980s, Jody Denberg served as Music Director for KLBJ-FM in Austin. In October, 1990 he transitioned to crosstown AAA KGSR-FM, taking on the role of Program Director. Over the next two decades, Denberg established himself as an influential figure in the industry, eventually becoming Assistant Program Director by late 2008. A year later, he left KGSR, and by 2010, he had joined the University of Texas-Austin's radio operations.

This move to noncommercial radio allowed Denberg to create a successor to KGSR, which had changed frequencies in late 2009. Since January, 2013 Denberg's new home was KUTX-FM, competing with KGSR.

Now, Denberg is ready to wrap up his radio career, about five years after KGSR ceased operations. His final show will air from 12-4pm Central on Friday, August 2), coinciding with his 65th birthday.

Denberg's journey began at KLBJ, despite originally being from The Bronx and moving to El Paso as a teenager. He secured his position at KLBJ after critiquing the station's abrupt shift to Rock (AOR), leading to an opportunity to host the Sunday morning "Critic's Choice" program and then a fulltime role.
