A new Sports Audio Report from Edison Research highlights the critical role audio content plays in how fans follow their favorite teams and make decisions, particularly in the realms of fantasy sports and betting. The data reveals that sports audio, including podcasts and radio, is indispensable for many fans engaged in these activities.
One of the standout findings from the report is the strong connection between fantasy sports and fan loyalty. In a surprising twist, 56% of fantasy sports players stated that they would prefer their fantasy team to win over their favorite sports team. This demonstrates how deeply fantasy sports are integrated into their overall sports experience.
For these dedicated fans, sports audio has become a vital tool. The report shows that 65% of fantasy sports participants rely on audio content -- whether it's traditional radio, satellite radio, or podcasts -- to help manage their fantasy teams. The impact is similarly strong for sports bettors, with 60% indicating that audio plays a crucial role in their betting decisions, providing access to real-time statistics, expert analysis, and key information.
These insights are part of a larger exploration of the role audio plays in the evolving landscape of sports fandom, particularly for those heavily involved in fantasy sports and betting. Additional insights into the behaviors of diverse fan groups will be presented in the upcoming Sports Audio Report: Diverse Fans, supported by SiriusXM Media and GroupM. A webinar detailing these findings will take place on October 29 at 2pm ET.
