Public Radio WYSO-FM in Dayton, OH has launched a new music-only streaming channel called "Novaphonic," available online at novaphonic.fm and via HD radio. Starting November 4, Novaphonic will deliver an uninterrupted 24/7 music schedule curated by the WYSO music team, offering a blend of regional and global sounds across numerous genres.
Novaphonic operates alongside WYSO's main broadcast, where the station's music programs such as "Midday Music," "Around the Fringe" and "Tables of Content" will simulcast on both channels. However, while WYSO switches to news programming such as "Morning Edition" and "All Things Considered," Novaphonic will continue airing music, providing a continuous stream of music without interruption.
The channel's lineup is crafted to celebrate diverse genres and artists, from Americana and rock to jazz, R&B, and world music, with a focus on supporting local musicians and regional sounds. WYSO Music Director Juliet Fromholt highlights the station's inclusive approach, saying, "Our goal is to support a community of musicians and music fans that feels welcoming and inclusive. Diversity is an essential part of our daily mix."
Fromholt explains that Novaphonic's programming embraces a wide spectrum of genres under broad labels: "Roots" music includes bluegrass, folk, and Americana; "Rock" stretches from punk to indie, spotlighting artists like Big Mama Thornton and David Bowie. For "Rhythm," the mix encompasses jazz, hip-hop, and soul, with a nod to Dayton's Funk legacy. "Pop" explores mainstream influences through artists on the fringes like Bjork and Mitski, while "World" music showcases sounds from the global South and beyond.
Novaphonic represents WYSO's commitment to a round-the-clock music experience, serving as a new digital venue for music fans.
