In an annual show of community spirit and generosity, The Bert Show on WWWQ (Q99.7) in Atlanta and its national syndication through Westwood One, has again brought its "Breaking and Entering Christmas" campaign to life, lifting spirits and providing critical support to families in need throughout Metro Atlanta.
This year's campaign centered on a single mother grappling with terminal stage-four stomach cancer and caring for her two young sons, aged 12 and 7. With her illness preventing her from working, the family's financial burdens have fallen on her mother, who is working multiple jobs to support them. Moved by their plight, The Bert Show listeners rallied to support through a collaborative effort with Purposity, a non-profit platform that connects donors with those in urgent need.
The response was overwhelming. The Bert Show's community donated over $25,000 to cover the family's rent, groceries, and holiday gifts. But the generosity didn't end there. As the campaign progressed, the audience expanded their support to other families, raising over $50,000, fulfilling nearly 1,000 individual needs, and engaging over 1,200 participants in this charitable endeavor.
Host Bert Weiss expressed his admiration for the consistent support his listeners have shown over the years. "I shouldn't be surprised," Weiss remarked. "Literally every single time in the 24 years I've done The Bert Show, our listeners have totally and completely covered the needs of families we help. Every. Single. Time. In fact, they provide MORE than what we ask for."
Inspired by Little Tommy Sablan of the Jeff and Jer Show in San Diego, the Breaking and Entering Christmas tradition underscores the profound impact of community involvement, compassion and generosity, especially during the holiday season.
