NPR has named Jay Shaylor as Executive Producer of its flagship programs, "Morning Edition" and the companion podcast "Up First." Shaylor brings to NPR a career in broadcast journalism, marked by leadership roles at some of the nation's top news programs. Prior to joining NPR, Shaylor served as the Executive Producer of "The CBS Evening News with Norah O'Donnell," where he played a pivotal role in the newscast's relocation from New York to Washington, DC.

Before CBS, Shaylor was at the helm of CNN's "The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer," where he oversaw coverage of significant political events during the first Trump administration. His early career highlights include his role as Senior Producer for "Good Morning America," where he contributed to the program surpassing NBC's "Today Show" in viewership for the first time in 16 years.

Commenting on his new role, Shaylor expressed enthusiasm about joining NPR, noting the critical role "Morning Edition" plays in providing reliable and balanced news. "At a time when our country is divided and the truth seems up for debate, 'Morning Edition' remains a light in the darkness," said Shaylor.

NPR also acknowledged Kelley Dickens, who has served as the Interim Executive Producer. Dickens will continue to contribute to the team in her new role as Deputy Executive Producer.

Jay Shaylor, a native of South Carolina and resident of Washington DC, will assume his new position on March 3.
