Wondery is set to unveil its latest podcast, "Scam Factory," an investigative series that delves into the alarming operations of scam compounds around the globe. Hosted by veteran journalist Denise Chan, the podcast will make its debut ad-free on Wondery+ on February 10, before becoming widely available on February 24.

"Scam Factory" explores the chilling experiences of individuals unwittingly lured into scam compounds under the guise of attractive job offers. The series is anchored around the story of Charlie, a woman from the Philippines who assists her younger brother Max in securing what they believe is a dream job overseas. However, upon arrival, Max finds himself entrapped in a fortified compound, monitored by armed guards with lethal orders.

Through a combination of first-hand testimonies and investigative journalism, the series reveals the extensive reach and brutal tactics of these scam syndicates, which operate multi-billion dollar enterprises by exploiting vulnerable individuals. Victims are coerced into working over 14 hours a day, scamming others as a means of survival in these dire conditions.

Denise Chan, known for her work on Wondery's "Fed Up" and "Over My Dead Body: Gone Hunting," brings her investigative expertise to "Scam Factory." Her previous documentaries have tackled significant issues across various sectors, earning her several prestigious awards, including a regional Edward R. Murrow Award and multiple Emmy nominations.

"Scam Factory" not only aims to shed light on these ruthless scam operations but also to underscore the human tragedies unfolding behind the spam calls and emails that many dismiss as mere nuisances. This original Wondery production promises to provide a compelling look into a hidden world of deceit and desperation.
