Tom Mailey Retiring After 32 Years on KNCI Sacramento

After more than three decades waking up Sacramento on Bonneville's 105.1 KNCI, longtime morning co-host Tom Mailey is stepping away from the mic. Mailey announced his retirement from the "Pat, Tom & Cody" show, with his final broadcast set to follow the station's annual Country In The Park event this weekend.

Mailey, who teamed up with Pat Still in 1992 on what was then KRAK-FM (New Country 105.1), reflected on the milestone in a heartfelt Facebook post. "This wasn't an easy decision -- 32.5 years with Pat is longer than most marriages. And I snore!" he joked. "But he has been exceptional to work with... He's as close to me as my own actual brother."

The duo moved to 105.1 KNCI when KRAK-FM and former rival 98.5 KNCI came under common ownership in 1994. They were later joined by Cody Robinson in 2017, following a 16-year run with Julie Ryan. Prior to his time in Sacramento, Mailey was known to Seattle radio listeners as "Commander Tom" on Country 94.1 KMPS and also did newscasts on sister station KHTK "Hot Talk 1140."

Mailey and Still were both inducted into the Country Radio Hall of Fame earlier this year.

In his retirement message, Mailey shared that he made the decision while Still was undergoing cancer treatment and a stem cell transplant. "It made real that cliche that 'none of us are guaranteed tomorrow,'" he said. With a lifelong love of fishing, Mailey plans to expand his part-time guide service Get The Net Fishing into a full-time endeavor.

"It has been a privilege - and the joy of my life -- to be a part of your life the past 32 years," Mailey wrote. "On behalf of MY family - Vickie, Emma, Joe and Sam, thank you for allowing us to build our lives here."

Pat Still and Cody Robinson will continue to host KNCI's morning show.
