iHeartPodcasts has announced a new original podcast series, The Away End, teaming journalist and author Daniel Alarcon with writer John Green to explore the global appeal of international football ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
The weekly series will examine how the sport connects people across borders, cultures, and communities. Blending reporting with conversational storytelling, Green and Alarcon will discuss memorable matches, childhood experiences, and the personal stories that have helped make soccer the world's most followed sport.
Alarcon, host of My Cultura Podcast Network's Radio Ambulante, said the project reflects the role soccer has played throughout his life and identity, particularly as the tournament returns to North America for the first time since 1994. Green described soccer as both a source of hope and a lens for examining broader social realities, adding that the show will explore those contrasts through shared conversations.
The Away End will debut January 21 with new episodes released weekly on Tuesdays. The podcast will be available on the iHeartRadio app and across major podcast platforms.
