Christy Tanner has been appointed President and CEO of New York Public Radio (NYPR), effective immediately. NYPR's portfolio includes WNYC, WQXR, WNYC Studios, Gothamist, The Jerome L. Greene Performance Space, and New Jersey Public Radio. Tanner succeeds LaFontaine E. Oliver, who will continue with the organization as Executive Chair.

Tanner brings more than two decades of media leadership experience, having held senior executive roles at CBS, TV Guide, and The Washington Post Company. She currently serves as Chair of Swerve Sports and sits on the board of directors of Audacy.

"Christy is the leader NYPR needs at this moment," said John Rose, Chair of the NYPR Board of Trustees. "She brings the leadership, experience, and vision to guide NYPR into a successful future, while reinforcing the trust we've earned with audiences over generations."

"As a longtime fan of NYPR's magnificent work, I'm honored to join this powerhouse organization," Tanner said. "I look forward to serving New Yorkers and audiences everywhere alongside a world-class team setting the standard for audio and multiplatform excellence."

Tanner began her career as a reporter and editor at The Associated Press and The Commercial Appeal in Memphis. In executive roles at organizations including The Washington Post Company and Reed Elsevier, she helped pioneer multiplatform programming, products, and revenue models.

As CEO of TV Guide Digital, Tanner led the company's turnaround and its 2013 sale to CBS Interactive. She later assumed leadership of CBS News Digital in 2015, overseeing significant innovation across mobile, audio, social, and connected TV platforms. During her tenure, CBS News Digital grew to the top of its peer group, reaching one billion streams in 2020.

Her honors include serving as Co-Chair of Digital Content Next, founding Co-Chair of the Reykjavik Global Forum for women's leadership, and recognition as a UN Generation Equality Leader. Tanner was part of two Pulitzer Prize-winning teams at The Associated Press and has received multiple Webby Awards, Broadcasting & Cable's Technology Leadership Award, and AdAge's Media Vanguard Award.

Oliver will remain with NYPR as Executive Chair, focusing on stability and collaboration across the public radio system following the recent elimination of funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
