Podcast network Noiser is expanding its slate of historical programming with the launch of Real Vikings, a new 10-episode series narrated by Iain Glen. The series premieres March 10. Best known for roles in Game of Thrones and Downton Abbey, Glen lends his voice to the series, which explores the historical realities behind one of history's most mythologized cultures.
Real Vikings focuses on separating fact from fiction, offering fresh historical analysis aimed at both dedicated history enthusiasts and newcomers. The series examines Viking-era raids, battles and expansion, while also highlighting lesser-known stories and cultural contributions.
Among the figures featured are legendary Norse leaders Ragnar Lothbrok, Canute and Harald Hardrada. The podcast also explores events and legacies ranging from a Viking-era murder mystery on Dorset's Chesil Beach to the founding of Iceland's Althing parliament. Additional episodes trace evidence of Viking influence as far as Istanbul's Hagia Sophia and Vinland in North America, centuries before Christopher Columbus.
Noiser says the series combines expert commentary, immersive sound design and narrative storytelling to present a broader view of the Viking Age and its continuing influence on the modern world.
Real Vikings will be available free on major podcast platforms, including Apple Podcasts and Spotify, and ad-free on BBC Sounds.
