WGN Radio news anchor Sylvia Snowden has received a "Best Investigative Reporting" honor at the Peter Lisagor Awards, presented by the Chicago Headline Club.
Snowden was recognized for an investigation into a high-profile TikTok personality and party promoter who organized a large West Side gathering despite police warnings about potential violence. The event drew nearly 1,000 attendees and was followed by three separate shootings that left two people dead.
Her reporting uncovered that the promoter was employed by Chicago Public Schools. Snowden continued to follow the story, detailing the individual's suspension with pay and eventual return to the classroom after a district investigation.
Snowden, who joined WGN Radio as a news anchor in November 2023, covers news across Chicago and its suburbs. A Chicago native, she is a graduate of Morgan Park High School and serves on the boards of both the National Association of Black Journalists Chicago and the Journalism and Women's Symposium.
