Graduation speeches across the Houston area got an unexpected radio twist this spring thanks to KKBQ-FM (93Q) and The Q Morning Show with Riggs, Katelyn, and Erica.
The station challenged graduating seniors to incorporate the phrases "Riggs, Katelyn and Erica" and "93Q" into their commencement speeches and submit video proof for a chance to win prizes. The promotion, dubbed the "Commencement Challenge," generated entries from students representing schools throughout the Houston area.
Participants found creative ways to work references to the morning show and station into one of the most memorable moments of their academic careers, often surprising classmates, teachers, and family members in attendance.
After reviewing the submissions, 93Q named Kenzi Gibson of Boling High School as the grand prize winner. Gibson received the opportunity to attend an Ella Langley concert of her choice in Texas, a $500 cash prize, and an autographed Ella Langley guitar.
The station also rewarded all eligible participants with tickets to the upcoming 93Q Cowboys & Angels concert scheduled for July 21.
"We were blown away by the creativity and confidence these graduates showed," said Riggs, Katelyn, and Erica in a statement. "Graduation is such a special moment, and the fact that they were willing to include us in their speeches means the world to us. We're incredibly grateful for every submission."
