Outgoing FCC Commissioner Jonathan Adelstein let it slip Tuesday that several payola consent decrees had been struck with radio outlets in mid-sized markets. The revelation came during a session at NAB2009 focused on Washington regulations. Speaking with reporters later, he said about 4-5 decrees have been reached and would be released soon.
None of the broadcasters were named and he indicated that it was part of an effort to handle some loose ends prior to his departure. The White House has officially sent his nomination as administrator of the Rural Utilities Service to the Senate for confirmation.
Adelstein has served on the Commission for the past six years.
