RADIO ONLINE | Saturday, June 2, 2018 |
President Trump has nominated Geoffrey Starks to fill the FCC seat currently occupied by Mignon Clyburn, a Democrat, who announced in April she would leave the Commission. Her term officially ended in June 2017, but she has remained on the commission waiting for a successor to be named. Starks' appointment will require approval from the U.S. Senate. He currently serves as the Assistant Bureau Chief in the agency's Enforcement Bureau.
In a statement, FCC Chairman Ajit Pai said, "I congratulate Geoffrey Starks on his forthcoming nomination to serve as a Commissioner on the Federal Communications Commission. He has a distinguished record of public service, including in the FCC's Enforcement Bureau, and I wish him all the best during the confirmation process."
NAB President/Gordon Smith said, "NAB strongly supports President Trump's selection of Geoffrey Starks to a seat on the Federal Communications Commission. We endorse his swift confirmation."
On February 21, 2018, the Joint Center sent a letter to Senate Democratic Leader Charles Schumer (D-NY) recommending Starks for the FCC. A native of Kansas City, Starks was appointed by President Obama to serve in the U.S. States Department of Justice, Office of the Deputy Attorney General before becoming Assistant Chief of the Enforcement Bureau.
