SiriusXM to Shut Down its Stitcher Podcast App

SiriusXM will shut down the Stitcher podcast app and subscription service. The company on Tuesday said that it would end the service on August 29. The move comes in an effort to drive more listeners to the SXM app, while placing all its content in one place. Stitcher's podcasts will remain on other platforms and on the SXM app.

"The scale and reach of our widely distributed podcasts has been and remains a crucial accelerant for our advertising sales business, while incorporating podcasts more holistically into our flagship SiriusXM subscription service will help to drive further growth," wrote SiriusXM executives Joe Inzerillo, John Trimble and Scott Greenstein in an internal memo.

Stitcher will continue to operate its Stitcher Studios and Earwolf networks to create podcasts. No layoffs are expected.
