iHeartMedia's KYSR (Alt 98.7) Los Angeles has added longtime Southern California radio personality Nicole Alvarez to its on-air lineup on a fill-in basis over the holidays, with plans for her to remain part of the station's staff going forward.
Alvarez will fill in for Christen Limon in the midday slot during the week of December 22 and for Booker & Stryker in afternoon drive the week of December 29. The move marks Alvarez's first on-air role since departing KROQ in August, following a 23-year run at the heritage alternative station.
Lisa Worden, Senior Vice President of Alternative and Rock Programming for iHeartMedia and Program Director for Alt 98.7, said Alvarez brings deep credibility and passion to the station's sound, calling her a longtime "Voice of L.A." and welcoming her return to the market.
In a statement, Alvarez described the move as a new chapter rather than a closing one, expressing gratitude for her time at KROQ while signaling confidence in Alt 98.7's direction and leadership. She cited the opportunity to work alongside The Woody Show, reunite with former colleagues, and contribute to the station's ongoing growth.
Alvarez began her radio career at age 18 and became a fixture at KROQ, known for artist-driven interviews with acts including Metallica, Linkin Park, Eddie Vedder, The Smashing Pumpkins, Billie Eilish and Foo Fighters. Her career also includes co-hosting Loveline, work as an MTV event correspondent, appearances at the Billboard Music Awards, and service on the Recording Academy's Rock Committee.
In addition to her broadcast work, Alvarez is currently the primary West Coast contributor for Consequence of Sound and remains active in community and charitable efforts across Los Angeles.
