Detroit Stations Unite to Protest Airplay Royalties

Representatives from Radio One-owned stations in Detroit are joining Clear Channel, CBS Radio and Greater Media at a town hall meeting called by Congressman John Conyers on Tuesday, June 2 at the Wayne State Law School. The stations are each encouraging their listeners to attend and voice their opposition to Conyers-sponsored Performance Royalty Act (HR 848) which would levy royalties on radio for local airplay.

Air personalities and station personnel from WDMK-FM, WHTD-FM, WCHB-AM, WCSX-FM, WRIF-FM, WMGC-FM, WWJ-AM, WJLB-FM, WMXD-FM, WKQI-FM, WNIC-FM and WDFN-AM will be on hand in a show of solidarity against the bill. Syndicated Reverend Al Sharpton will also be there to speak out against the proposed measure.
