KLBJ/Austin Cancels Todd and Don Show Over Slur

Rock KLBJ-AM/Austin has cancelled the late morning show "Todd & Don" after Don Pryor used a racial slur to refer to illegal immigrants multiple times last Tuesday. Pryor will remain an employee at the station under a deal with the station's owners, Emmis Radio, and local members of the U.S. Hispanic Contractors Association. Todd Jeffries remains as the station's News Director.
Following the ordeal last week, Pryor told the American-Statesman that he regreted repeatedly using the ethnic slur, wetbacks, to describe illegal immigrants on his Tuesday AM talk show.
"I frequently use sarcasm and satire in my humor," Pryor told listeners. "The first mistake I made is using the term. It's a highly offensive and outdated term that should never be used."
Frank Fuentes, chairman of the U.S. Hispanic Contractors Association based in Austin, said, "We're very happy that we can accept their proposed plan of action and then move forward. At the end of the day, we were very appreciative of (KLBJ-AM reps) undivided attention. I think they came to the table in good faith."
