WGN-AM/Chicago and the Chicago Cubs announced Friday that Ron Coomer has been named color analyst for the Chicago Cubs radio broadcasts. Coomer, a former Cub and Chicago area native, will join play-by-play broadcaster Pat Hughes in the Cubs radio booth beginning with the 2014 spring training schedule. Coomer, 47, spent nine years in major league baseball including one season with the Cubs in 2001. He joins the Cubs radio team after serving as in-studio analyst for the Minnesota Twins on Fox Sports North Television.
"We're thrilled to have Ron Coomer join the WGN Radio Cubs broadcast team," said WGN Radio Sports Director Dave Eanet. "His humor, knowledge and lifelong affinity for the Cubs make him a natural to team up with Pat in the booth for Chicago's very own."
"What a great homecoming for Ron," added President/Business Operations Crane Kenney. "I enjoyed getting to know Ron during the process and am a fan of his work in the Twin Cities. His knowledge of the game is vast and he will be a great complement to Pat in the WGN booth."
