Study: Radio Usage High Among Smart Speaker Users

In part II of The Smart Audio Report from NPR and Edison Research, 40% of Smart Speaker owners say that devices such as the Amazon Echo and the Google Home have had an impact on their lives. The study of 1,620 Adults 18+ via online survey -- consisting of 800 Smart Speaker owners and 820 non-owners -- found that 44% agree that having a Smart Speaker has helped them spend more time with people in their household.
52% of heavy Smart Speaker users are under age 35. 91% of heavy Smart Speaker users and 86% of medium heavy users listen to music. 76% of heavy users and 35% of medium heavy users listen to AM/FM News/Talk and 76% of heavy users and 47% of medium heavy users listen to AM/FM music with their Smart Speakers.
52% of Smart Speaker owners say that they keep their primary device in the living room. followed by the kitchen (24%), master bedroom (12%), other bedroom (5%), home office (4%) and other location (3%).
87% of Smart Speaker owners say the reasons they wanted a device was to to ask questions without needing to type. 62% want to hear better music than what's found on FM Radio, while 45% want to replace an old stereo/radio.
