RADIO ONLINE | Monday, May 7, 2018 |
The 5th annual GAB Radio Talent Institute returns to the campus of the University of Georgia on Monday with added support from the Beasley Media Group. VP/Corporate Communications Heidi Raphael is the opening speaker for this year's 10-day Institute, with 40 broadcasters coming together to teach and prepare the next generation of broadcasters. Broadcast pros leading the sessions are coming from Beasley, Cox Media, Urban One, Entercom, Cumulus, iHeartMedia, Salem Media Group and others, as well as the Atlanta Braves and Atlanta Falcons.
College students have been accepted into the Institute from UGA, as well as from seven other schools in the state and region. They will be immersed in all things radio, including on-air, programming, news, sports, digital/social media, production, engineering, promotions and sales, with each student becoming certified as a Radio Marketing Professional by the RAB.
Beasley Media Group CEO Caroline Beasley commented, "We are honored to support the Georgia Association of Broadcasters in this important initiative that underscores our company's commitment to education in future broadcasters."
GAB President Bob Houghton stated, "The Georgia Association of Broadcasters is proud of our partnership with the National Radio Talent System, and now, with our Beasley Media Group relationship, this partnership is even stronger. Over the past five years we have graduated over 100 students who are ready to make a contribution to the future of our industry. I appreciate the nearly forty broadcasters each year who give their time and talent to speak in the Institute. Broadcasting, and specifically radio, has a proud past and, with this program, a bright future."
Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication's Dean Charles Davis commented: "The GAB Radio Talent Institute is a great asset, a great event introducing students to broadcasting careers. It is a wonderful addition to our offerings."
To date, the students completing an Institute have begun their career in radio or a related field and have gone on to work for the Beasley Media Group, Cox Media, Entercom, iHeartMedia, Alpha Media, Cumulus and others.
"This is a dynamic industry", stated Dan Vallie, President and Founder of the National Radio Talent System. "It shows how much people in our industry love what we do, take pride in being in broadcasting and, more importantly, will do what it takes to ensure we have bright young talent in the industry today so we will thrive on into the 21st century. We are building the talent farm the industry has always needed, now more than ever."
