WPLJ-FM/New York to Sign Off the Air on May 31
RADIO ONLINE | Wednesday, May 8, 2019 |
WPLJ-FM/New York will sign off the air on May 31 after being acquired by Christian Radio broadcaster Educational Media Foundation (EMF) last February. The announcement on the station's final broadcast was made Wednesday on the "Todd & Jayde" morning show. The Hot AC outlet, along with six others owned by Cumulus Media, were sold in a $103.5 million cash deal to EMF, which began operating the station under a LMA on March 1.
"The rumors you've been hearing are true," PLJ announced in a video posted to Twitter Wednesday. "As hard as it is to believe, WPLJ will be going away on Friday, May 31. The format and personalities you've come to love over the years will no longer broadcast on 95.5."
WPLJ hit the airwaves in 1971 as an AOR outlet and in 1983 flipped to CHR. In the early 90s, the station shifted to its current Hot AC format.
