WGTS/D.C. Wraps Up Second Year of Leadership Program
RADIO ONLINE | Thursday, October 19, 2023 |
WGTS-FM/Washington, DC has just finished the second year of its Leadership Development Program (LDP). The program launched in 2022 with three students with the mission of training and teaching university students in all facets of the media ministry. One of last year's interns, Tom Ozio, has become the full-time assistant to the Director of Promotions and Community Engagement for WGTS.
This year, the program hired two university student interns. Emily Kreher is a sophomore at American University. She spent the summer observing and assisting with the morning show and the production of Breakaway, a long-running interview program aired on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
Julia Everett, a graduating senior from Liberty University, grew up listening to the songs aired on WGTS 91.9 and has valued working in an environment that centers around Christian music and points people to Jesus.
Several LDP students have received university class credit while learning about media programming, marketing, engagement, office operations, fundraising and leadership. LDP students rotate through each department, gaining broad experience. Their experience concluded with an LDP capstone meeting with the top leadership of WGTS 91.9.
"It is important that we invest in young people through practical exposure and education, helping them explore the many career paths within media ministry," said President and CEO Kevin Krueger.
