News/Talk WJR-AM/Detroit is named Market One Commercial Radio Station of the Year by the Michigan Association of Broadcasters (MAB). The station was honored with a total of 10 MAB Broadcast Excellence "Best" Awards, including Best Regularly Scheduled Broadcast Personality or Team, for WJR's "JR Afternoons with Chris Renwick" and another recognizing the station's efforts in community involvement, along with multiple merit awards. The annual MAB Broadcast Excellence Awards gala was held on Saturday, April 6 in Detroit.

"Thank you to everyone associated with the Michigan Association of Broadcasters for this tremendous honor," said WJR Program Director Ann Thomas. "As you can imagine... because WJR is more than a hundred years old, the archives in the Golden Tower of the Fisher Building are amazing. While doing some spring cleaning the other day, I came across boxes of awards and plaques from non-profit organizations applauding our work and 'thank you' notes from community leaders and listeners. It reminded me that all of us here in this room stand on the shoulders of the broadcasting greats who came before us."

Cumulus Detroit Regional Vice President/Market Manager Steve Finateri commented, "What a privilege and thrill to win this award as voted by the Michigan Association of Broadcasters. Congratulations to the entire WJR team, who bring their "A" game to the radio station every single day, and to Ann Thomas, for WJR winning this prestigious honor in her first year as WJR Program Director."
