TRP Appoints Ashley Alvarado as President and CEO

Texas Public Radio (TPR) appoints Ashley Alvarado as its next President and CEO, effective December 2024. Alvarado currently serves as the Vice President of Community Engagement and Strategic Initiatives at LAist (Southern California Public Radio) and succeeds Joyce Slocum, who died in March. Alvarado will take the reins at TPR to lead the nonprofit media organization's strategy and operations, encompassing its broadcast, streaming and digital platforms.

TPR Board of Directors Chair Lori Castillo stated, "Ashley is a true innovator with a notable background in public media. Her extensive experience and transformative leadership approach assure us she is well-suited to guide TPR into a new era."

Alvarado expressed enthusiasm about her new role, highlighting her commitment to dynamic and inclusive journalism that resonates with and represents San Antonio's diverse community both on-air and online.

Alvarado's career in media spans over a decade at LAist, where she has been instrumental in community engagement, diversity initiatives and the organization's digital transformation. Her previous roles include positions at the Center for Investigative Reporting and various journalistic education and leadership programs. She also holds positions on several national boards, including the Online News Association and Greater Public.
