KIRO Newsradio listeners will soon bid farewell to one of Seattle's most iconic voices. Dave Ross, a trusted broadcaster whose career at the station spans nearly five decades, has announced his retirement. His final day on air will be December 19, marking the end of a remarkable career that has left an indelible mark on Seattle's radio landscape.

Joining him in departing "Seattle's Morning News" is co-host Colleen O'Brien, who has been a key voice alongside Ross for years. O'Brien's final broadcast is also set for December 19. Known for her insights and warm presence, O'Brien has been a vital part of KIRO's morning programming.

"Dave has not only been a trusted voice in Seattle but a powerful example of journalistic excellence," said Bonneville International President and COO Tanya Vea. "For nearly five decades, his dedication to truth and commitment to the Seattle community have left a lasting impact on KIRO Newsradio and beyond. We are deeply grateful for his service and the legacy he leaves behind."

Ross joined KIRO Newsradio in 1978 as a news reporter and anchor, quickly becoming a central figure in Seattle media. Over the years, his commentary and balanced approach to the news have fostered trust among listeners across the Pacific Northwest. In 1987, he launched "The Dave Ross Show," bringing clarity and humor to complex topics. Since 2013, he has anchored "Seattle's Morning News."

Ross has covered some of the most significant events in modern history, including the September 11 attacks from Ground Zero, the Iraq War from Qatar and Baghdad, and the fall of the Berlin Wall. His reporting has also taken him to Jerusalem, the Soviet Union during its collapse, and cities across Asia.

His work has been recognized with five National Edward R. Murrow Awards for writing, a testament to his ability to deliver compelling stories with integrity and insight.

"Dave's curiosity and talent for making complex topics accessible is truly unique," said KIRO Director of News and Talk Programming Bryan Buckalew. "While his daily presence will be greatly missed, we honor his extraordinary career and the lasting legacy he has created at KIRO Newsradio."

Beyond his journalistic achievements, Ross has been deeply involved in the Seattle community, highlighting local issues and participating in civic events. His thoughtful engagement has made him more than a broadcaster -- he is a trusted voice and advocate for Seattleites.

"Dave Ross is more than just a broadcaster; he's the heart and soul of KIRO Newsradio," said Bonneville Seattle Senior Vice President and Market Manager Cathy Cangiano. "His ability to present a balanced perspective and his distinctive voice have made him an irreplaceable part of our team."

KIRO Newsradio plans to celebrate Ross's career with special on-air tributes featuring messages from current and former colleagues, local VIPs and Seattle community leaders. Listeners are invited to share their memories and tributes at MyNorthwest.com/DaveRoss.
