Ideastream, CSU Flip WCSB to JazzNEO in Cleveland

Ideastream Public Media has launched JazzNEO, a new Jazz format now airing on WCSB-FM (89.3) in Cleveland. The initiative, created in partnership with Cleveland State University, replaces the longtime student-run college Alternative outlet with Jazze simulcasting WCLV-HD2 (90.3).

JazzNEO highlights both iconic recordings and contemporary voices, along with spotlight segments on Northeast Ohio's jazz community. Special programming will include live performances, interviews, and features on local talent.

CSU President Laura Bloomberg said the decision supports the university's Cleveland State United strategic plan, which emphasizes experiential learning. The partnership will create paid and for-credit opportunities in journalism, radio and TV production, marketing, and graphic design.

"Ideastream's leadership in cultural programming gives our students new ways to gain real-world experience while strengthening community ties," Bloomberg said.

Ideastream President/CEO Kevin Martin called jazz "one of America's most original art forms," adding, "By expanding its reach on the airwaves, we're ensuring this music remains vibrant, accessible, and part of the cultural fabric of our community."

The change also marks a major shift for WCSB, which was set to celebrate its 50th anniversary as a student-operated station. In a farewell message, student General Manager Allison Baumgartner said the station "as a student organization is now defunct," though students plan to continue programming until CSU and campus officials transition operations.
