Sad to report the death of veteran air personality Jay Walker (aka Daryl Lee McCann). He died April 1 at Maury Regional Medical Center in Pulaski from complications of a heart attack. He was 60. Both Jay and his wife of 40 years, Betty, are good friends of RADIO ONLINE publishers Ron and Lisa Chase. He worked in the radio industry for over 30 years.
In his radio career he was an air personality and Program Director, in several radio markets and was close with the late programmer Steve Rivers. In 1988, he and his wife launched a community newspaper in West Sacramento, California, until he sold it and retired in 1996.
Walker was also an avid member of his community, serving many organizations in California before moving to Tennessee in 2008. He was a member of The Rotary Club, Kiwanis, Chamber of Commerce (West Sacramento, Folsom, and Davis), The California Newspaper Publishers Association, and a supporter of several Little League teams.
