Shazam For Radio Touts Successes in Los Angeles

Interactive, Shazamable radio content proved to be valuable in Los Angeles last month as listeners "Shazamed away" to win Kanye West tickets. The "Topless Summer" contest on CBS Radio CHR KAMP-FM (97.1 AMP FM) featured LA's very first Shazamable station promo. When listeners used their Shazam app during the broadcast they were served with Kanye music, videos, tour information and an enter to win element with a chance to win two tickets to West's Saint Pablo Tour.

The promos played over one weekend and received nearly 4,500 Shazams with an 80% engagement rate. Shazam activity trend by hour showed sustained performance over the course of the entire 3-day promotion and users spent more time with the AMP FM, Jeep and Kanye brands, remaining inside the app for an additional minute. Additionally, Shazam was able to offer behavioral insights on those 4,500 listeners including their age and location of Shazams, the music they Shazamed, the television shows they watch and even the advertisers they engaged with following the contest.

"We've been launching Shazamable content all over the country these last several months thanks to Shazam for Radio," said Sun Broadcast Group CEO Jason Bailey. "But there's still no way to explain the magical feeling when we see this kind of reaction. Listeners, who have only had the chance to Shazam songs in the past, overwhelmingly welcomed this new way of engaging with their favorite radio station. What's even more incredible were the mounds of data on this audience we were able to offer back to the folks at AMP to help them connect deeper with their audience."

The Shazam for Radio service is used by over 1,000 stations across multiple groups such as Hubbard Radio, The Cromwell Group, Greater Media and DMR Productions, as well as syndicated shows including "The Hit List with Fitz," "The House of Hair with Dee Snider" and "The Country Club with Dee Jay Silver."
