Radio By Grace Supports Geo-Targeting in FCC Letter

Federal Communications Commission
Federal Communications Commission

Radio By Grace, a religious broadcaster with stations in south Florida and Texas, has sent a letter to FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel in support of the proposed rulemaking change for broadcast radio to include geo-targeting. It the letter from William Gehm, its president, he said, "We believe the pending proposal to permit FM broadcasters like ourselves to use FM booster technology to geotarget our broadcasts for a portion of each hour would clearly benefit the communities we serve."

"In particular," he added, "many of our Radio By Grace stations, such as those in South Florida and Texas, reach communities where English may not be the primary language spoken by many listeners. With this technology, we would be able to geotarget public service announcement and support requests to those audiences, enabling Radio By Grace to better connect with listeners in our communities. It could also be a useful tool for churches affiliated with any non-profit religious broadcaster to promote service and other community events directly to the neighborhood they are already in, providing another link between neighbors and facilitating fellowship."

Radio By Grace joins International Black Broadcasters Association, the National Newspaper Publishers Association (NNPA), the Multicultural Media, Telecom and Internet Council (MMTC) and other representatives of the minority broadcasting community in supporting this proposal to permit FM broadcasters to provide hyper-local content using geotargeting booster technology.
