FCC Seeks Public Input for New FM Broadcast Station Class

Federal Communications Commission (FCC)
Federal Communications Commission (FCC)

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is inviting public comments on a proposal to establish a new class of FM broadcast stations, Class A10. This initiative was prompted by a petition from Commander Communication Corporation, which was officially submitted on June 13. The proposed Class A10 stations would operate with a maximum of 10,000 watts and a height above average terrain of 100 meters (328 feet).

The introduction of Class A10 is part of an effort to refine the FM broadcasting landscape and would replace an earlier proposal for a "Class C4" station class. As outlined by the FCC's Media Bureau, this new class would necessitate amendments to current facilities requirements and minimum distance separation standards.

Interested parties are encouraged to submit their comments and feedback through the FCC's Electronic Comment Filing System by July 22, 2024, with reply comments due by August 21, 2024. This proceeding is designated as a "permit-but-disclose" case, adhering to the FCC's ex parte rules, asking that those making presentations must file summaries of their arguments promptly after their presentation. For more details or to submit comments electronically, participants can visit the FCC's filing website at its Electronic Filing System.

This development marks a significant potential shift in FM broadcasting, aiming to enhance service and coverage capabilities across the broadcasting spectrum.
